@insiamkingdom: “Phra Suwan Mala” (woven gold) is a headdress worn by royal women in the Ayutthaya royal court. It is a type of ceremonial headdress worn with a low chignon at the nape of the neck and secured with a hairpin. Important evidence comes from the discovery of a Phra Suwan Mala in the crypt beneath the prang of Wat Ratchaburana in Ayutthaya. It is presumed to date to the Early Ayutthaya period, around 1424 CE, and is currently on display at the Chao Sam Phraya National Museum. According to ancient documents and the Three Seals Law (Kot Monthian Ban), headdresses of this type were associated with specific royal ranks. The texts mention the Royal Consort (Phra Ratcha Thewi) and Royal Principal Consort (Phra Akkha Chaya) as wearing the Mala Muay Hang Hong style. This has led to the supposition that the unearthed Phra Suwan Mala may have been part of the ceremonial attire of high-ranking women in the royal court. The Phra Suwan Mala is made of intricately woven gold and decorated with elaborate motifs, including scrolling kranok, prachamyam motifs, dok chan (star-flower) motifs, and crafted floral ornaments.
