They don’t automatically bring a better version of themselves to a new relationship. They bring themselves. The same wounds. The same attachment patterns. The same fears. The same defenses. The same shit they refused to heal with you. A new person isn’t a magic wand. Novelty can make everything look different for a while. A different partner may trigger different parts of them. But if someone hasn’t developed the courage and self-awareness to confront their patterns, those patterns don’t simply disappear because the relationship changed. You may have loved them through an incredibly difficult period. You may have helped them get back on their feet. You may have shown them parts of themselves they desperately didn’t want to see. But you didn’t heal them. They have to do that. And sometimes after being deeply seen, a person doesn’t become more authentic. They double down on the mask. They find a relationship where they can maintain greater control over the narrative of who they are. But a mask isn’t healing. Avoidance isn’t healing. Starting over isn’t healing. Eventually, intimacy asks us to reveal ourselves. So stop torturing yourself wondering whether someone else got the healed version you deserved. Ask yourself instead: Am I becoming the healed version of ME? That’s the only transformation you actually control. If you’re ready to take the focus off of them and put it back where it belongs—on you—visit the link in my bio to explore ways I can support you or join me during my free Office Hours. #AvoidantAttachment #AttachmentStyle #Heartbreak #BrokenHeart #HealingJourney
