@devobeant: #german #ww2 #History These photographs illustrate how architecture and monumental interior design were used by the Nzi regime to project political authority. The first image shows the Reichstag assembled in Berlin’s Kroll Opera House, which served as the parliament’s meeting place during the Nzi dictatorship. Dominated by an enormous state eagle and swastikas, the chamber transformed parliamentary proceedings into carefully staged political spectacles. By this period, the Reichstag had ceased to function as a meaningful democratic legislature and largely served to publicly endorse decisions made by H!tler’s dictatorship. The second image shows an interior of the New Reich Chancellery in Berlin, designed principally by architect Albert Speer and officially opened in 1939. Its monumental sequence of halls, extensive use of marble, imposing proportions and carefully controlled decorative program were deliberately conceived to impress visitors and visually communicate the authority of H!tler and the Nzi state. Much of the New Reich Chancellery was damaged during the final stages of the Second World War and its remaining structures were subsequently demolished after the war. A.Z :
A question for native Germans, would you have wanted Germany to win the war ? Many people say that Germans today hate their own history or even their ancestors. Is that really true?
