@qabooskhn: Today, millions will raise their flags and celebrate Azadi. But how do we celebrate freedom with a whole heart when, in the very Kashmir we call “Azad,” mothers are mourning their children, families are searching for their loved ones, young people have lost their lives, hundreds have been detained, and an entire population has spent weeks struggling through internet blackouts, road closures and shortages? These are the same mountains we visit for peace. The same valleys we proudly call paradise. But behind those beautiful views are people crying to be heard. People asking for dignity, justice and their rights. Their pain did not end when their videos stopped trending. Their mothers did not stop crying when we stopped sharing. Their families did not stop grieving when we went back to our lives. This 14 August, remember that Azadi cannot only be something we celebrate for ourselves. If our Kashmiri brothers and sisters are suffering, their voices deserve to be heard too. Do not let their pain disappear behind celebrations and flags. Remember those who lost their lives. Remember those who are injured and detained. Remember Kashmir. Maybe in another life, Kashmir was never touched. But in this life, Kashmir needs our voice.
