I’m surprised the police didn’t make them euthanize

Girl, be the bigger person and sue them and their insurance. They don’t give a shit, and neither should you.

I’m shocked that they’re legally allowed to keep the dog alive.

simple answer you go back to no contact with the parents even after the dog passes away - they chose the dog over family safety these people aren't SAFE

my grandmother's golden retriever (who was over a year old and I had known.its whole life) mauled me when I was 6 or 7 I almost lost half of my lower lip and it was completely unprovoked. I also had over 150 sutures and 4 reconstructed surgery as I grew up to fix my face/mouth. they kept the dog, my dad said we won't visit your home but you are still welcome to visit us without the dog. she ended up isolating herself from us eventually choosing the dog over her ONLY two grandchildren. my uncle who lived with my grandma blames my parents for our family seperating in this way. my mom put me in horse back riding lessons the summer after it happened. I loved all animals and my mom was so worried I would be afraid of animals after saying I wanted to be an animal doctor my whole life up to then. I work professionally with animals in vet med and I'm 35. I'm so sorry you and your husband and especially your daughter for having to navigate this. it was a weird thing as a kid to process and as an adult I know my parents did the right thing.

My mum would actually kill the dog herself on the spot to protect her grandkids. 😬

I feel like even if you allowed her to go, she still wouldn’t want to because that’s deeply traumatizing

No contact. No going back. You’ve tried so hard. They’re not even doing the bare minimum. Get closer to your in-laws

Unfortunately even with a trigger, the severity of the attack should end in euthanasia. It’s a tough reality but that’s what it is.

Before you cut them off (which you should) get in writing that that will cover the medical expenses included therapy. I hope your daughter’s recovery is swift and she heals without a trace for the attack.

An attack and a bite aren't the same thing — the circumstances of a bite can change the appropriate response. An attack? 150 stitches? You can't keep that dog. This is insane behavior.

Are you filing against their homeowners policy? Most of the time a contingency of the policy is that the dog is removed or the policy could be canceled or increased.
