@slideshowhistorian: Some of the deadliest disasters in human history were caused not by armies or wars, but by water. From the catastrophic China floods of 1931, which may have killed millions through drowning, disease and famine, to the devastating Yellow River floods of 1887 and 1938, entire communities were destroyed and millions of people were left without homes or food. In 1970, the Bhola Cyclone struck what is now Bangladesh, producing a devastating storm surge that killed hundreds of thousands of people and became one of the deadliest natural disasters ever recorded. Then came the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, triggered by one of the most powerful earthquakes ever recorded. Massive waves swept across coastlines in 14 countries, killing or leaving missing nearly 228,000 people. These disasters show just how quickly water can transform entire regions and why floods, storm surges and tsunamis remain among the most destructive forces in history. Which of these disasters shocked you the most? #historytok #flood #tsunami #slideshowhistorian #disaster
