@stehfuhnee_: Cadence is a gifted child and benefitted from the personalized attention she was receiving but as a professional and intentional parent, I also know when it’s time to pivot. #homeschooling #homeschoolmom #teachertiktok @rhode skin @Hourglass Cosmetics
We “homeschooled” until 5. That’s it. He needs to go to school and I need my peace and silence back. 🤣

This is such a needed take because I don’t think people realize how much kids need that socialization outside of the home and that academic push that usually occurs in school

Unfortunately there’s no federal regulation around homeschooling and many states don’t have guidance.

Guys they do have homeschool programs that have actual teachers, you don’t have to teach them everything yourself & I don’t think you should, a teacher needs to be involved at some point

As an elementary school social worker… thank you for this!!!! Because I see a lot of parents “which no childhood education background” or higher education choosing to homeschool.

Your caption continues to speak to who you are as a parent! Everyone WANTS to homeschool but doesn't understand all the social, and emotional aspects that also go into play. As a black teacher I'm very intentional what I teach but also being in nyc gives me a little wiggle room.. but kids need to socialize, kids need to make mistakes!

Yes!!!! homeschooling and virtual learning are two different things. Having a teacher, tutor, or program aid other than the parent is what is needed in my opinion as a former headstart teacher and current certified high school teacher. I believe some are wanting to control or censor their children from certain things that will hinder their development. IN MY OPINION going as far as connecting education to their personal and political beliefs.

As someone who was homeschooled at a young age then transitioned to public school, knowing when to pivot is very important!

PLEASEEEEEE talk more about this. This homeschooling wave needs to end. Saw someone impose a full STEM curriculum on their small kids. What if they want to be the next Toni Morrison or Barack?!

I tell my friends all the time “you know you’re gonna die right?” When I see them coddling their kids. Just to remind them the world is not going out of its way for your kid

I’m currently homeschooling my kid this year for the individualized attention she needs right now but she’s enrolled into an academy where they will teach the curriculum everyday with other kids are being homeschooled too.

It’s interesting that people think it’s either or because you can send kids to school and enrich their education outside of school

@Stephany you explained this so well. As an educator, I feel like some parents are doing their child a disservice by homeschooling them, and then thrusting them back into public school without proper socialization skills and coping skills in general. So many students have a difficult time transitioning from homeschool to public school because of the type of homeschooling they were getting where there was really no structure.

What do you think about homeschooling in the early years such as pre k and kindergarten? I am just very worried that my baby isn’t old enough to be able to communicate with me the way I would like after sending her to school. She’s only 2 right now

I had a roommate in college who was homeschooled and she was very sweet but was very socially awkward. I’m sure there are children who develop just fine, but I think it’s not the best option for some kids.

This is what I tell people about homeschooling. I rely on the apps, co- ops and programs out there because my explanation of fractions revolves around pizza and that will only take us so far 🤣. We have a big homeschool community where I live so there are events, meetups…etc that we do a lot of socializing. Texas is getting weird about the schools here so he’ll have to go to private school when we enroll him.

I like these thoughts and opinions. Some parents think they can just keep their home and put them in front of the computer 😭 it’s so many other aspects to school. But also it’s not like they have license and certified professionals for nothingggg lol

I was homeschooled for six years, but I had take standardized state testing every year and I was well socialized outside of home, so by the time I entered high school my transition was pretty seamless. It can be done successfully, but most people in practice aren't willing to put in the work because it's A LOT.
