It’s actually social isolation which is a bigger risk factor, than hearing itself. And the research identifies that Deaf people are more likely to be isolated due to social exclusion. Just another reason why hearing people should learn BSL!

So this has been studied and it is true, however I believe it only relates to people who develop hearing loss as part of aging.
