@jewelsbooks6: Lindsay Clancy DID receive inpatient psychiatric care. So what actually happened—and where might the system have failed? As someone who worked in acute inpatient psychiatry, I think we may be asking the wrong question. #LindsayClancy #MentalHealth #Psychiatry #MentalHealthAwareness #PsychHospital
Thank you for so clearly identifying the problem. Hopefully this will become a start of rethinking our healthcare information sharing system. I understand now why nbc correspondent was identifying a comparison of European vs American patient records responsibility. Even without a mental disorder, I experienced this firsthand. I showed up at ER bc I had inflammation from a cat bite….I had fever and was very tired. I had to fill out paperwork and was treated for the infection. But when the natural question came up if I was up to date on my tetanus shot, I couldn’t tell them off the top of my tired head when I had the last one. And since I moved a few times, pulling all the records was not easy. I was in pain, but not in crisis. Asking a mental patient in a mental crisis to produce records is ludicrous. And that’s how it’s not a stretch to see the scenario where a patient is given medication that can worsen the symptoms and lead to a devastating result.

Quite frankly, trying to narrow down accountability is fruitless. There are so many little failures that contributed to this, from her psychiatrist to Lindsay herself . Sometimes shit happens. We are trying to Monday morning quarterback and place responsibility on a single source when there were so many contributing factors. We can’t even fix our government, local or federal. Sometimes things fall through the cracks. Part of the problem was her internalization of what a good mother is—pushed largely by other women—like breast is best which drives women to almost kill themselves to produce milk or sleep training. Mother’s feels the pressure to be perfect. Nothing is good enough. That type of thinking is contributed to this tragedy and is why so many women are empathizing with another who strangulated her children. Because the pursuits of perfect motherhood IS maddening because it requires the complete sacrifice of identity.

Saying she was turned away from W&I PHP for over medication is a misrepresentation too. Lindsay insisted that her symptoms, namely SI, were caused by the seroquel (SI is not a side effect of seroquel). She denied any history of bipolar, mania, psychosis, and did not endorse any symptoms of such. She was insistent that her symptoms were not caused by a mental health diagnosis, but by seroquel. So the PHP said well, if you’re denying any symptoms or history and insisting that if you stop the seroquel then you’ll be fine, we can’t really do anything for you

These facilities are insurance driven, and they are not what they look like on the brochure. Let’s just put it that way.

also NP Julotta tried to engage with bipolar and they both refused and wouldn't entertain that .. but now it seems after the fact they are claiming it enough to sue people

Well said!!! You are so right!!! People who don’t work in mental health especially in an Inpatient hospital setting can’t understand. They are ignorant and speak nonsense.

Functional depression is a thing just like being a functional alcoholic is a thing. Thank you for this post. I will say in regards to the plan situation, want that from when she called for support kind of in-the-moment major SI episodes?

I just think it’s wrong that you can’t get the same level of care inpatient on a holiday or weekend (even in regular hospitals). Albeit a much bigger problem that needs fixing- and I know that’s how it is- I still feel there is no excuse for that.
