@blacksoul5262: A Scooter With NO Wheels?! (1960) #scooter Max Remasters In 1960, American engineer Charles Rhoades demonstrated an extraordinary vehicle that looked like a scooter-but had no wheels. The Rhoades Hover Scooter was essentially a one-person hovercraft, designed to ride on a cushion of air. The prototype was powered by a 250 cc twin-cylinder, two-stroke motorcycle engine. The engine drove a fan that created an air cushion about 15 cm (6 in) above the surface. With no wheels, the machine could travel over both land and water. The scooter was demonstrated at Long Ditton, Surrey, England, on November 9, 1960, and was also displayed at the 1960 Cycle and Motor Cycle Show at Earls Court, London. Contemporary reporting noted that it had no conventional wheels and that steering was achieved by leaning the machine, much like a motorcycle-but in the opposite direction. Despite its futuristic design, the Hover Scooter never entered mass production.
