I think it’s a generational thing. I’m 28, personally I wouldn’t even drop in on a friend with a new baby without pre-arranging. I work in maternity care and also tell new parents to set firm boundaries about visiting and to tell people that they will tell them when they are ready for visitors.

Well actually people should text beforehand especially just after giving birth. I think in Ireland with new Mums most would text and ask when is it a good time to drop in. I think maybe they wanted to show their support as you’re not from here. They might have thought you’d be missing your own family friends

It’s more a rural thing as opposed to cities and big towns so I’m assuming you are living in a rural area

When I go back to visit my mum , I’m amazed at the drop in culture. Sometimes it’s like grand central station ! And in the summer , sometimes they call in at 10pm ! Like really ?
