@ayatalis: The experiment lasted almost three decades. Psychologists observed children whose parents raised them without punishment, without yelling, without strict limits. “The child knows what they need.” The parents were sure they were raising the happiest kids possible. No trauma. No pressure on personality. The perfect picture from humanistic psychology books. The first warning signs appeared during the teenage years. Teachers complained the kids couldn’t sit through a class. If they felt bored, they stood up and left. They couldn’t handle rejection. The word “no” made no sense to them. By age twenty, the situation became worrying. First job — first breakdown. A manager asked a young man to redo a task. He didn’t show up the next day. Not out of protest. He simply couldn’t handle the pressure. A young woman quit three jobs in one year. “They ask me to do things I don’t like.” She had been taught to do only what felt good. But work doesn’t function that way. Relationships collapsed even faster. A partner asked for compromise — the reaction was harsh. They expected unconditional love but didn’t know how to give it back. They had learned to receive, not to give. Psychologist John Gottman once explained: “A brain that never learned to tolerate tension struggles with the stress of adult life. Every ‘no’ becomes a serious problem.” By age thirty, more than half had not adapted well. Many still lived with their parents. They struggled to build careers or long-term relationships. Every difficulty felt overwhelming. One participant admitted: “I don’t know how to live in a world where everything isn’t about me. Where you have to wait, tolerate things, adjust.” The key conclusion of the study was simple. Limits are not cruelty. Parents thought they were giving freedom. Instead, they took away their children’s immunity to real life. The world will not adjust to your child. If a child never learns to face resistance at home, they enter adult life unprepared and fragile. #child

Professor of developmental psychology at Rollins College, Dr. Alice Davidson, told The Globe and Mail, "Many children of gentle parents are not learning boundaries, nor natural consequences in the midst of really challenging circumstances. Boundaries are so important."

This is ridiculous. Where do you find children who were ‘never’ scolded . How do you determine or test for this . This is just made up stuff.

my father raised 4 on his own after our mom passed away at a very young age, he never raised a hand to us, never screamed at us, he was gentle and treated us with respect and we treated him with respect, we are all seniors now , we all lived good lives, held a job, got married, have homes and kids, and none of us drink, smoke or do rugs, so you don't need to mistreat a child to teach them to be good, lead by example

I can understand this. I was the most compliant kid. Rarely grounded and when i was told “go to your room” i was thrilled. Held the same job for over 35 years. My sister? When she was told “go to your room” she crawled out the window. When she got spanked (normal spanking), she kept saying “hit me again. That didnt hurt. Go on. Keep going” defiantly. I never got a spanking. I always finished my supper. She would sit for HOURS not eating if she didnt have what she wanted. Rarely held a job and when she did, it never lasted longer than a year. We dont talk since our mother died but she always complained its too hard to work with me on stuff. I held a job over 35 years and worked with all kinds of people. Every time she had to work with someone she didnt like, she quit her job. My parents had no idea how to handle her.

it's fascinating how many people don't understand what gentle parenting is and how it works, if what this post says is true, that is NOT gentle parenting
