A good resource for frost dates is the old farmers almanac at almanac.com. It has a planting guide/calendar based off your zip code. I swear by it.

It's so hard to think about trying a fall garden when it's 103 outside 😅

Being in northeast PA I have a wonky grow season. But this year I actually planned and planted for fall. I have lettuce, kale, Swiss chard, carrots, beets, turnips and for something new for me I tried baby Choi cabbages 🥰I do need to do garlic in October but I think I’m done for now 🤣

Check with your local agricultural department. They usually offer free classes and will give you specifics on the varieties. Not all tomatoes or peppers are good for every area.

Queen of impatience here.. hard lesson learned I planted way too early in the heat and nothing survived. I am very new to gardening and I will probably do it again lol

This is the best advice!! Always go by your first and last predicted first dates! It’s saved me so much headache!

Monday is 8 weeks before early first frost! If my sweet baby watermelons are the size of grapes, should I just pull them? Lol.

Tip: don’t forget to label your plants especially if you’re new to fall planting & can’t easily identify what’s growing. Also helpful to put the days to maturity on the label! Brassicas, to me, always look ready before they’re actually ready lol

Unrelated question: I planted my fall seeds. I need to thin my carrots and beets. When do I thin the shoots? They are all starting to show two sets of leaves.
