@andy_highlander: What does it really take to be an RNLI lifeguard? I spent the day with the brilliant RNLI lifeguard team at West Sands, St Andrews, putting myself through some of their fitness tests, taking part in simulated rescues, getting on the rescue board and even finding my float, learning first-hand just how much training, skill and fitness goes into keeping people safe at the coast. This year marks 25 years of RNLI lifeguards. Since 2001, they’ve responded to more than 333,000 incidents and saved nearly 2,200 lives across the UK and Channel Islands. A huge thank you to the team at West Sands and everyone at the RNLI for putting me through my paces and, more importantly, for everything you do to keep us safe.
