@sweeteaeditsig: no h8 to the lead actors at all they’re comedic timing and acting was so natural but also like why are POC disappearing from YA series’? #sterlingpoint #primevideo #anniejacobsen #diversity #yaseries
I was so frustrated when I realized that stacey mallory wasn’t going to be given a bigger part, because they used her race to seem more diverse and then just got rid of the character!!! it’s basically just the disposable black girlfriend trope which is SO disappointing to see in a show that tries to present itself as inclusive

to me i think being a poc changes the story so much, like im indian and for the main character in Never Have I Ever to be indian, there had to be a major plot of her culture and family life, so i think even as adopted children, the main characters being poc would have changed their experiences so much it would be a different show imo, a great show, but definetely not this storyline, and i feel it would be almost a diservice to not do justice to the experience of poc being adopted into white families to not make that part of the story and i feel like its complicated enough as it is like i still dont fully understand what went down with the mom lol

I agree with you and thought this while watching as well but then I just figured it might have something to do with the storyline of their biological parents. Plus rich white ppl wanting adopted children to “look like them” is certainly not shocking…

the performative diversity of having one person of colour in the freind group in every tv show nowadays is getting out of hand like they are always the comedic relief as well its shocking!!

I kinda think they’re gonna end up somehow being related to their adoptive parents, so maybe that could be why

see I’m all for racial diversity where it makes sense in a show but as a poc in Canada, muskoka is predominantly very white and wealthy with very little racial diversity and sterling point looks at class differences in that region in a realistic way

Ellis is native canadian! And the show took proper care to have the actress who plays his mother be native canadian too!! I feel like they were so subtle about it people dont even realise, they could have mentioned his surname or something. But at least some consideration was given.

As someone who auditioned, I can confirm that Annie and Connor were “open/all ethnicity” when casting. They just unfortunately (but predictably) chose to make them white

really not a big deal. there are plenty of other shows that do have POC representation.

This was a big thing that bothered me, why where there almost no POC cast? I felt like Oona and sister should've been POC too

Forced representation ruins shows. Casting is all about the actor who embody the character best and has also incredible chemistry with other cast mates. Annie’s actress did a phenomenal job she literally carried the whole show and implying she was picked just because she is white is why we have shitty shows. Look at the response the public had with elle and this show about lgbtq+ representation vs Bridgerton forced one. In Elle for instance people are shopping Liz with Elle even though she is canonically straight. The point is representation should be built around actual chemistry no one the fear of lack of diversity in a cast because otherwise it gets labeled as not diverse enough

The need for things to be extremely diverse constant actually makes everything seem fake. Because rarely in the real world is EVERY environment super diverse.

you can excuse off campus’s cast bc it’s a pwi yet you find it hard to believe that a show set in a private island/ lakeside town in middle of nowhere canada is hella white ??

Probably because if Annie and Connor weren’t white it would have been more of a thing with Ramona being their parents’ biological child and I bet they didn’t want to do that

I just think in general we need more shows/movies that have people of color but I wish they’d make a series like sterling point, off campus, etc. that has poc as the main cast without hardships. 99% of shows/movies that have poc revolve around poverty, mom/dad issues, etc. it would be SO nice to see someone bring to life a show where it’s silly high school drama, boy drama, coming of age and in a love trope like sterling point but with people of color. Hopefully this makes sense lmao I rambled

The actors that played Connor and Annie did great kind of hard seeing someone else play them but also Annie definitely had some time of way about her not being biological related to her mom and wished she looked like her so that might of been problematic with a poc
