@craftywink: actual conversation I had with my husband last week and according to all the comment sections on every platform, I think I may be right! #autisticadult #relatable #foodsafety #fyp #fy
That's definitely a food safety thing. Once it's been heated the first time (ie cooked), then cooled down and then reheated, that's it. It should not be cooled and reheated again, too many chances for bacteria contamination.

I hate reheated anything

Food safety aside the taste and texture changes when you reheat food especially if you use a microwave. Personally I cook once and then reheat leftover portions as needed immediately put unused leftovers back in the fridge.

Wait I thought it was a food safety thing

its a food safety thing. it does make sense. it heats, then cools, then grows more bacteria particularly when its in the middle between heated and cooled. i allow two reheats on my food before i decide it is likely not safe. it's sort of the equivalent of leaving it out on the counter for too long, but a bit worse since it has more time in the danger zone. you CAN choose to ignore it, but it didn't come from nowhere and it is NOT an arbitrary rule

it kind of is a thing. at least in food safety.

It is 100% absolutely a rule. Once you reheat something and it cools down and reheat and cool down, there’s a much greater chance of growing bacteria and getting food poisoning.

depending on how its being reheated, it also is going to lower the quality being reheated multiple times.

Yes. It increases the likelihood of bacteria build up. Just because it happens safely sometimes doesn’t mean it will always be safe.

It's like a chain of custody. Every time you reheat and let the food cooldown you are risking bacterial growth

100% a thing. Don’t do that

its definitely a thing depending on what it is. the people who argue against it are the same ones risking food poisoning every holiday with their cooking.

It's absolutely a thing. You should not reheat things over and over again. It puts it in the danger zone too many times and can breed bacteria.

reheating and cooling food multiple times completely changes texture

My husband lives by that rule. No more than 1 reheat after the first cook!

It completely makes sense. It is unsafe to reheat and cool food multiple times

B. Cereus is not killed by Microwave heating. So, yes, you cant take food safe range, heat it, increase bacterial colonies and recool it and then reheat it.

Yeah I’m a chef that’s absolutely a thing. When you reheat things more than once the food spends more time in the temperature danger zone and bacteria has more time to grow. Not to mention breakdown in quality, vitamins and integrity.

every resturant job I've had, only allowed one reheat after initial cooking because of bacteria growth.

Reheating things multiple times expands the time frame they are in the temperature range that is hospitable to bacteria growth.
