@hennesseyry93: STOP getting HIT AFTER your JAB 🥊 Throwing a jab and not finishing on defence is a sure fire way to get countered. Here are three ways a southpaw can defend immediately after the jab against an orthodox fighter. 1️⃣ JAB → SLIP TO THEIR LEAD SIDE → LEAD UPPERCUT → CROSS After the jab, slip towards the orthodox fighter’s lead side and take your head outside the line of their returning jab. From that slipped position, fire the lead uppercut followed by the cross. Don’t bring your head back up between the punches. You’ve already created the angle and taken your head away from the firing line, so keep the position while you counter. 2️⃣ JAB → SLIP TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE → CROSS → LEAD HOOK This time, take your head to the opposite side after the jab and come straight back with the cross and lead hook. Again, the defence and counter shouldn’t feel like two separate actions. The slip puts you into the position to fire the cross, and the cross naturally transfers you across for the lead hook. 3️⃣ JAB → STEP BACK → STEP-IN 1–2 Use your feet to take the punch away completely. Jab, step back and make their returning jab fall short, then immediately step back into range behind your own jab and finish with the cross. The distance matters here. Whatever distance you take away with the step back, you need to recover with the step-in jab. Step too far back without recovering that ground and your counter will fall short. Don’t reach for the punches, use your feet to put yourself back into range. 🥊 SLIP LEAD SIDE - evade the jab & counter from the angle 🥊 SLIP OPPOSITE SIDE - change the line & fire back 🥊 STEP BACK - take away the range & recover it behind your jab Your jab shouldn’t finish the sequence.
