Here’s a little Lash Science 101 for you to drink up, buttercups. Ever have a wonky volume fan base that snatches together after dipping into adhesive? That’s 𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣! You may have heard the term “wicking”, but we like to sound fancy ‘round here. Capillary action occurs when adhesive climbs up tiny channels between the extensions, pulling them together and creating a slim base. Similar to how water rises when you dip a paper towel into a cup. Keep in mind that the more extensions you use, the more channels are created, causing the adhesive to rise faster. The longer a fan is in the adhesive, the faster it will channel upwards. A 15D 0.03 diameter fan will “drink” more adhesive than a 4D 0.07 volume fan in a shorter period of time. TIP: Avoid volume fans closing by ensuring the adhesive has set before releasing it onto the natural lash. A half-second dry time adhesive doesn’t mean it will dry that quickly for every fan, regardless of dimension.
