I mean, they didn't just "switch sides" much of the population of Italy hated Mussolini. The citizens developed sheet metal guns to fight against the authorities.

i mean we did finish split in 2 sides, the republic of salo that was a puppet state of the nazi forced northen italian troops to die to delay the advance of the allies, while southern italy surrenered and swiched sides alongside that remained of the goverment of rome and our late royal family, there was for a while italian soldiers killing other italians. thats why i hate the "they swiched sides again" more like we had a civil war
