Just like with solet (cholent), I think it’s true that every household has its own way of making it. In the Hungarian version, we usually don’t add potatoes. Instead, it’s made with lots of onions and eggs, along with the beans and other ingredients. Some people even add Coca-Cola, beer, or ketchup to give it a slightly sweeter and richer flavour. There are so many different family recipes — everyone has their own little secret!
