@antiquariant: Walking hand in hand with my love around the Highgate Cemetery in London, foxes crossing our paths and resting on top of the graves, crows watching us carefully, petals of withering roses falling down from their vases, tombs and mausoleums casting thick shadows, crypts cracked open and through the chain that holds them we could see crooked, cobwebbed coffins. We stayed until the bell rang - the keeper walks around ringing a bell to let you know that the gates will soon close. 🦇🪦 The Highgate Cemetery exemplifies the art of death in the Victorian era, the art of eternal rest and love they had for each other, but it holds also legends of a vampire. It is said that in the 1970s people were witnessing a tall, dark figure, strange apparitions which led to unauthorized vampire hunt by hundreds of people. They would climb the walls of the highgate cemetery on the night of Friday the 13th, break into crypts and damage tombs looking for the phantom. Victorian art of death and mourning is a subjects I am highly fascinated with and this place has been my dream place to visit for years.
