@kubambaezingelayo1: The Mpumalanga Department of Education has fired Chief Financial Officer Thokozile Ntuli over the controversial procurement of 22 laptops at R91,482.50 each. The procurement cost the department more than R2 million, including accessories and a printer. A provincial investigation found that the procurement process was materially flawed and did not comply with constitutional procurement requirements and the PFMA. It also found that laptops supplied were of lower quality than those specified and identified possible misrepresentation and fraud. The scandal dates back to a whistle-blower complaint in February 2025 and triggered disciplinary action against several officials. The investigation recommended recovery of financial losses, disciplinary proceedings and possible criminal referrals. The provincial government has since reported recovering R685,712.70 from the service provider, with the remaining amount expected to be recovered.
