well im still in the US sounds like your clinic sucks. if we had an appointment usually we go in and go to the front desk if the doctor requested labs the front desk will send us there first then we see the doctor. if its fasted they would probably let us know we needed to be fasted and we could do labs any time prior to the appointment.

Dude, unless you're in a REALLY small town, I think you need to find a better doctor 😬 I'm in the US and never been to a doctor that can't do bloodwork that day at the office, including small towns. They just stick a needle in and collect the blood after the appointment. The only time they sent me somewhere else is when I had to go to the rheumatologist. And they just post my results online and give me a call about them, I only have to go back in if something is actually wrong. I don't know why it's so complicated for you. What state are you in? I've been to doctors in Alabama and North Carolina.

Nothing like that. I’m an American now living in Norway. My mom was just visiting and had a uti. We had to go to the emergency room, they did bloodwork and a urine test. She paid $52 and the meds were super cheap like below $20….I paid $300 out of pocket this year, I had to get 3 MRI’s and get established here medically…is why I hit my $300. Now everything is free the rest of the year…healthcare in USA is insane.

I’m in the US and they draw blood at my doctors office. If I know they are going to draw blood, I fast before going to the appointment. They usually call me with the results. I don’t have to make an appointment to go in to get the results.

hey im a phlebotomist and many labs dont require fasting but its recommended. you can always ask your doctor for a mychart chat (if they do that) and only make an appointment if the labs are abnormal. quest and labcorp charge differently for labs and hospitals have labs inside them too. if your doctor is tied with a hospital look to see if you can go to the hospitals lab to have it be all in-house and get results faster.

Sweden: the doctor asks for bloodwork. You go to the next room, take a que number. Usually within 30 min you get your blood taken, depends on where you live. For me it usually isn’t a line. It’s free. I get my results on my phone within a couple days, depending on what type of labs. Since I have a disease that requires labs kind of often I just go in at drop in in the morning. Usually doesn’t take longer than 30 min. My doctor calls me if there is something to discuss. The doctors visit costs 30$ though. Doesn’t matter what it is.

In PR, you also need the dr’s orders and it’s usually a separate place but an appointment is rarely needed for bloodwork and xrays. You need appt for MRI, sonogram, etc.

I'm in illinois. When I see my doctor and he wants labs, I just go to the lab in the same building and then they call me with the results. Example: if I have symptoms of a UTI, I message my doctor through the clinic portal, and she sends a lab order. Then I drive to the clinic/lab, and when they get the results, they usually call or message me back on the patient portal. Mexico- I see the doctor, who writes an order for labs, I then drive to the lab, get results from the lab and take them to the doctor. fyi- in Mexico, we keep and are responsible for bringing our own medical records. Mexico: if you are sick and go to the pharmacy, and if you need a medication that requires a prescription, there's usually a doctor there or next door who you to pay to see. Usually only around $10 or $20- he will diagnose you and write a prescription for what you need.

US here… yup. Then you wait like a week or so between visits and when you do go back in they just say “everything looks normal” but you’ve seen the bloodwork results on your medical app and a few were in the red and considered on the high side, but they say “yeah, those are high but this other one was in the normal range so I’m not worried about those ones being high”!? Happens to me ALL the time.

👀 Yikes! Where do you go? I go to Sutter. My doctor orders the labs, the lab is downstairs. By the time I walk downstairs the lab is waiting for me. I get my blood drawn and I'm out. I get my results on My Health Online in about an hour then usually my doctor messages me the next day to explain the results.

granted I'm in small town Canada but many places are the same....our lab is down the hall from the doctor and you just walk in. then usually my doc would call me later about the results. no fees.
