Being scared to get sober because you don't know how you'll survive all of it, the cravings, the withdrawals, the years of undoing what addiction built, makes complete sense, and the fear itself isn't the problem actually.  The problem is believing you have to solve all of it on day one. You were never supposed to get through all of it at once, you're only ever asked to get through today, and everything after today gets figured out one day at a time, the same way everyone who's made it through this has done it, not by seeing the whole road, just by getting through what was directly in front of them. If you're looking for something concrete to hold onto today instead of just an idea, here's where to start: Name one person you can call the moment things start to feel unbearable, before you're already in crisis Remove yourself physically from the place or situation the second you feel the pull, don't wait to see if you can outlast it Write down the reason you're doing this somewhere you'll actually see it today Replace the moment you'd normally use with something physical, a walk, a shower, a phone call, ANYTHING that gets you through the next twenty minutes Find one meeting, one hotline, or one person to be honest with today, you don't have to carry this alone to prove you're strong enough You don't have to know how the whole story ends to start today's chapter, and the fact that you're even considering this means part of you already believes you're capable of it.
