East Africa is diverse and dark skin Somali have softer hair but that’s never mentioned because the dark skin Africans with 4C hair are the ones who get highlighted as “real Africans”. Africa is a continent not a single country so all this calling our Ethiopians and Somalis will get us nowhere also it’s Somalis not Somalians and honestly this is giving jealousy towards both groups. Africa doesn’t have a representative or a certain look it’s a very diverse place and that’s the beauty of it all. You can either accept Africa is a diverse place or fight people and create more African wars.

They usually refer to the Horn of Africa and the thing is with somalis (I am one) nobody will deny you are somali if you’re dark . Our culture views the standard (somali asal) somali as dark skinned eventhough light is upheld. But you’re right the erasure online exists but irl you come across all different types of tones. Who wants to be fetishised anyway lol

This pisses me off so much because I’m dark skinned East African and I’m genuinely darker than most West African people. And in Uganda, where I’m from there are plenty of people darker than me. Even within countries like Ethiopia there are dark skinned people whose experiences somehow get completely left out of the conversation.

not going to lie no hate but this isn't really accurate most dark skin Somalis and dark skin Habesha have a loose of hair texture than the light skin ones tbh and Nilotic populations in Ethiopia are less than 1% (the whole population of a lot of people anything to combined being just less than 1 million) of the population and Bantus in Somalia are less than 8%. these groups deserve respect(and to address anti-blackness within these nations) but in terms of media at least in Ethiopian media that often over represented because the Cushitic/Semitic are the vast majority of the nation and are related to one another. I am a deeply dark skin Habesha(Semitic speaker) with wavy hair so I would never not talk about colorism and anti-blackness in the nation I'm just giving an explanation!
