@scott.austin.martin: Nervous system regulation does not mean you have to stay calm while someone criticizes you, disrespects you, or crosses your boundaries. Nothing about this work asks you to abandon yourself. Regulation does not mean becoming passive. Containment does not mean tolerating contempt. Emotional availability does not mean her feelings matter and yours do not. The goal is to build enough capacity that you can represent your needs without your survival system hijacking the conversation. There is a huge difference between saying, “I’m willing to have this conversation, but I’m not willing to be spoken to like that,” and exploding, attacking, shutting down, or trying to prove why she is wrong. One is a boundary. The other is reactivity. You can love her and disagree with her. You can understand her feelings without agreeing with her interpretation. You can take responsibility for your impact without accepting contempt. That is capacity. And it is how boundaries become clear, grounded, and effective. #relationships #menscoach #communicationtips #relationshiptips

My husband’s boundaries, are apparently anything he doesn’t like. Subject to change without notice.

This is actually really helpful, Scott. For one who's practiced being calm on the outside but not actually regulated, I needed to hear this part. In fact, dysregulation is exactly what has kept me from setting healthy boundaries where I need to while also staying present.
