@thebaldherper: Replying to @bob.lazar5 I don't limit myself based on any particular snake behaviors or temperaments, but I do limit myself based on space. I wouldn't keep large venomous like King cobras bushmasters, or mambas for example, because my room is too small to safely work with those long snakes.
As viperkeeper once said a mamba can make the biggest room look small. I highly recommend for everyone to watch the video called dancing with death on YouTube the channel is called Viperkeeper the guy was trying to bag a 6-8 foot black mamba and it literally chased him across the room

I can’t for the life of me remember the guys name maybe from like 10 years ago. He had a king cobra named Elvis and he kept it in like a large modified bird cage. Do you remember who that was? He was an older guy and I believe his wife did the filming.

If someone keeps a black mamba at home should he notify the local hospital (in case he ever gets bitten) to make sure they have the right anti venom?

My 15yo wants a snake. The pet store has labels that say “beginner” but are they really? Like what is truly a beginner snake?

Is it possible for someone to keep and care for a Boomslang? I have no desire or ability to but I wonder if a responsible private person could do it.

I am not thinking about doing this, but just out of curiosity what would be some ideal venomous snakes for a first time keeper who has a good amount of experience with snakes.

The leading reptile zoo and my state is located in Powell County. The guy who runs it got bit by a jameson’s mamba, and just so happens that he had anti-venom because he has anti-venom on all those snakes. Now the paramedic administered it wasn’t a wilderness medic so anti-venom was technically a breach of his scope. It caused a huge stink but KBEMS ultimately ruled in his favor. Interesting case to anyone who is interested

The only venomous snake I’d keep is a hog nose.

Elapids in general are a no no for new keepers. Way too unpredictable and mistakes happen too fast

A close call, literally never turns out to be a bite. A bite, by definition, is no longer a close call, it’s a bite. 🤣 just giving you a hard time, I know what you meant

I do work in a small room but now I’m using a lot of lock boxes. I’m waiting for my building gets done. I can’t wait to get a 35 foot space to work with them.
