My sister’s an RN (not L&D) and I’m having a baby soon. I was worried about a procedure I’m having done soon. She had said OB and peds are the only two fields of medicine where what the patient wants comes first and can override general recommendations or even some policies.

I had a still birth and was a menace to the staff because I wasn’t physically all there, they still wrote me a personal card afterwards apologizing for everything I when through. I nominate my team for an award afterwards

I think I know who you're responding to, and I 100% agree with you. Cesarean birth is different from removing a tumor, for goodness sake, and I'm shocked I even have to type that out. Like I agree that it's tacky for patients to micromanage, but it's also the day they meet their baby?? Of course it's personal??

I think she was the one replying to comments saying “you had postpartum depression because you had a c section? 🙄” like hello??? Any surgery has the risk of depression, combine it with postpartum and struggling to take care of your own baby and feeling like your body failed

Yep! Induction is the only “medical procedure” that takes multiple days and requires the patients active participation. It’s not passive! It’s not getting your appendix removed! This isn’t twilight sleep anymore. Women have a voice in that delivery room.

No literally. OBs and L&D nurses are a different breed. My first hospital stay was after birth (C-section) but then I had a couple other hospital stays for unrelated health things a year later and was like WHAT. The lack of constant care and check ins was so night and day 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I didn’t realize how different it was until then!

I had to have an ECV done in the OR and the hospital policies is that they try three times if they can’t flip the baby they’re done. She was so close to moving that I begged my ob to try one more time and he did! Still didn’t flip her she came out C-section that day but the fact that he tried made me feel so much better

This definitely sums up the experience I had as a recent L&D patient. I had a medically traumatic birth but it wasn’t emotionally traumatic because everyone on the floor understood this

idk it's a stupid take. a doctor who thinks she always knows best is a doctor that I don't want. it will be a doctor who won't be looking for mistakes, won't be admitting them, and won't be seeking out new information as much because they know best. patient should be involved in their surgeries even when they are put to sleep - they should know about procedures, anesthetics used, what is done to their bodies. because if again surgeon knows best then surgeon could say ah if you are getting an appendectomy it would be best for my medical student to practice a vaginal exam on you when you are unconscious.... hmmm 🤔 when was that a good idea that people would consent too?

While birth is medical care it's also a major life event that someone is going to think about and reference for the rest of their life. I had an OB that was there for a paycheck. She gave ZERO f*cks about her patients. I grew up on and live on a farm where the cows receive FAR better care than what she gave me. I didn't have more children because she ruined my trust of Drs and the hospital.
