As a LT the commander made me go to the field the week of due date and 24 hrs in they had to Red Cross me outta the field for the birth. Hospital waited as best they could and held off on medication until arrived.

Not an LT thing, but had a guy find out his kid had cancer on deployment. Our command said no to going home. The unit we were attached to put him on a plane and said they'd handle it. They sucked in every other aspect, but I'll always respect them for that.

I had the best LT. When I got a debilitating migraine and needed to go to the ER, he escorted me, his NCOIC. I was scared and so sick (I’d never had one that bad before and was terrified I’d have a stroke). And, then he took the flak for doing that.

Meanwhile, I watch my husband who's a commander literally barely glance at leave requests before he approves them lol - only had one guy request leave during field training this week, and that guy's getting chaptered out for some craaaaazy stuff, so needless to say, it was denied 😅

Get this I once had 100’days of leave. I had to print my LES to prove it. Then I got “why haven’t u taken leave”. A little bit later my son is born. (This is 2010 btw). I put in for 30 days of leave. 10 days in I get pulled back cuz oh ya. They considered me “mission essential”. I got stories for days on this topic

just wanna throw it out there for all the e4s here who still dk what their LT does…I had multiple soldiers who had children during field problems or NTC, my 1SG denied all their leaves. So no it’s not us

Thing is I remember this.. Wife was expecting & they still wanted me to go out to NTC. She went into Labor 2 days before leaving. And guess what? “ O we need you to come out to the sandbox”. I didn’t go. But! When it’s there wife expecting it’s a different story… I didn’t like that. Years latter… I became a E8 MSG. I always remembered how I was treated as a young soldier & never forgot that. Stuck with me years latter . Never did that to the soldiers. Always treated them with dignity & respect. Retired 2 years ago… 💯

True story, when my first kid was born, I took leave. My leave ended at midnight on the last day. My flight (I was Air Force) worked mids, 1800-0600. They literally made me come in at midnight and work half a shift because my leave technically ended. Now these guys get 6 months off for baby leave. Crazy.
