I think the dividing line is whether AI is replacing the relationship or helping you invest in it. My wife and I use AI to work through disagreements, remove some of the in-the-moment emotion, and better understand each other. I also maintain projects around my wife, each of my sons, and our family that function almost like living journals, helping me remember milestones, conversations, commitments, and ways I want to show up better.
I have no problem with AI suggesting dates, restaurants, gifts, or ways to express something. We used books, friends, magazines, and Google for the same thing. AI just makes it faster and more contextual.
I use it similarly in business. I used to manually keep notes on coworkers, clients, and prospects so I could remember what mattered to them and follow up. Now AI can organize that context and remind me to reach out, which actually lets me be more informed and intentional when we interact.
My boundary is simple: AI can suggest, remember, organize, research, and remind. Personal messages and decisions still require me.
The agent shouldn't have the relationship for me. It should increase my capacity to invest in the relationship myself.
