Net scoring is embarassjng. Someone with a low handicap could "lose" to someone with a high handicap, but everyone knows the low handicap is still a better golfer. So what's the point? It's like playing with a child and telling them they won. Imagine playing basketball and giving your opponent 20pts bc they suck and then "losing"? 😂

Golf is a solo sport. Caring about who 'wins' is stupid. If you shot well for yourself, then you feel good. No sane person is upset if they shaved 5 strokes off their personal best but lost to a person with 20 handicap more than them.

Disc golf has this too. There’s guys who play tons of unofficial tournaments for years so they have no rating for official ones and enter the lowest amateur division just to win by 10 strokes. Some are even crazy enough to tank a tournament to lower their ranking when they rank out. I’ll never understand people doing that and ruining the tournament for everyone in that division just to say they won a 10 dollar play it again sports gift card and won in ma4

As a 9 handicap I’ve never understood this mentality. I host a big outing each year (handicapped, two man best ball). 1. I’d never skew my own handicap just to win and 2. If others were doing that they wouldn’t be invited back

I think guys who hate the handicap system are the same ones who hate casual MMR in shooter games. They arent the best, but they are better than some and want to FEEL like the best. They don't want to have to try to have a good game, they just want the good game.

I don't think the problem is that they haven't played real sports, it's just that a lot of people are willing to cheat if they think they won't get caught/called out. Cheating happens all the time in professional sports.

I have next to no interest in golf and am very bad at it. I golf to spend time with people I like. I cheat with my friends. It’s a running gag bc I’m just there for the social club. I’m there for the bit. Even if I “win”, it’s still a joke 😂. What is with these people. 😭😭
