@drdeborahparenting: When your child drops to the floor screaming after you give an answer, here's what happens next. A lot of parents immediately change what they are doing. They start explaining. They get down on the floor. They offer something else. They keep talking until the screaming stops. Now the child is learning something bigger than the tantrum. The child is learning that getting louder changes what you do. Here's what to do instead. Starting at 18 months, if the answer was no before the screaming started, the screaming cannot reopen it. Stay where you are. Use very few words. If you need one sentence, say: "The answer is still no." Then stop talking. When the screaming ends, continue with what was already supposed to happen. The goal is not to win an argument with a screaming child. The goal is to make the answer predictable. When screaming stops changing the outcome, it stops working. No, I don’t agree. So in church, in a store or wherever you are the entire place should have to deal with your child having a tantrum. Nothing annoys me more than when I go out and leave my children at home to go shopping or to go wherever that I gotta sit there and watch someone else’s kid have a 45 minute tantrum. completely ridiculous you pick that child up and you take that child out of the store.

It's rather difficult especially in public spaces, but what you're saying has truth to it. We do this as much as we can. Takes a while but it gets lesser as they grow..
