@rappingwithmrjackson: SOUP 🍜 , SALAD 🥗 , OR SANDWICH 🥪?! 🤔🤔 Shoutout to Dr. J for this one because my class and I LOVED it! 🙌🏾🧪 We used Soup, Salad, or Sandwich to practice CER — Claim, Evidence, Reasoning 📝 First, students had to create definitions for each category that were specific enough that they didn’t overlap, but broad enough to include more than just one type of food. Then the arguments started 😂 🫛 Green bean casserole? Pretty much unanimous: SALAD. 🍦 Ice cream cone? Now THAT started some debates. One student argued SOUP because once the ice cream melts, you basically have a liquid. Another argued SANDWICH because the cone acts like the bread surrounding the food. Then I challenged them: Could I make a case that it’s a salad? 🤔 That was the meat of the lesson (pun intended 🤓) We practiced how scientists disagree without saying “that’s stupid.” You make a counterclaim, introduce new evidence, and explain your reasoning. They thought we were debating food. Whole time we were practicing scientific argumentation 👍🏾🐐 And according to them… they had fun doing it. That’s a WIN. 🏆 Big shoutout to Dr. J for the activity! I did this with my classes this week and it was such a hit!! ALL of the kids were engaged and respectfully arguing with each other to prove their claim!!
