That's a downcurrent — and no amount of dive theory prepares you for how genuinely wild it feels the first time. Here's what's actually happening: instead of a current pushing you sideways, it pulls you straight down, faster than you're kicking. Your bubbles, which should always rise, get caught in the same downward pull — so visually, it looks like the ocean just flipped gravity on you. The panic instinct is to fight it straight up. Don't. The move is to swim horizontally out of the current, stay calm, and let your training take over. 10/10 terrifying for about 5 seconds. 10/10 unforgettable.
