When i was 12 i told my mom that i had anxiety and i thought i needed to talk to someone and she said “talk to God. It’s just the devil” and then took me to church that Sunday and they called me up to the altar to pour oil on my head and cast the demon out. Imagine the increased anxiety lol.

this is very true. I resent my parents because of this, everything is jesus. there's no guidance or anything, no real advice. and I also think there's a deep relation between arrested development and religion.

I was raised in a very strict Pentecostal home and now I over explain everything to my kids because I was never taught a THING. I catch myself talking my kids through literally every situation and always giving them examples and trying to give them advice on everything because my parents were so emotionally unavailable and never communicated. So now I over communicate and have to stop myself sometimes so they can do things on their own in certain situations. I honestly probably come across as overbearing. It’s so difficult to find the balance when there was no guidance my entire life. It feels like I’m raising myself as a child while raising my own children. I didn’t know I was this set back until I became a mother and my eyes were really opened to just how badly we were neglected emotionally and mentally.
