I took a class at uni last year called Epidemics in the modern world and it cited the famine and general lack of healthy children (who were young adults when the plague hit) as part of the reason why the plague killed so many. I definitely agree with you on it being the worst century!

One of the best centuries in China; transitioning from Mongols to Ming. With clean water & civil service 😅

look at Grimms Fairy Tales Hansel and Gretel being stalked by the with, little red riding hood and the wolf and all the other tales of cannibalism. there's always truth in fiction.

While I currently agree about the 14th century, the 21st century is shaping up to be one for the ages. There is a “once in a lifetime” catastrophe every other week.

The wicked part is that the one to two thirds dying during the black death is averaged out. It would have been entirely possible that your entire village, save you, died.

I wanted to love this video, this is so interesting, but it feels so much like an AI generated script. It makes it less trustworthy to me. Did you write it?

I saw a video years ago from a Black creator theorizing that this century—along with the earlier crusades and a ton of other European shit—was what really kickstarted white supremacy, bc all these disasters (along with the teaching of Christian superiority) took away, by and large, Europeans’ capacity for compassion, empathy, care, and kindness over multiple generations. I’m massively oversimplifying but I thought it was brilliant. I can’t remember the creator, unfortunately

that’s why i’m always quick to laugh it off when people think we’re living in the end times. you never know, we could be hit by an asteroid or something, but i’m grateful that our reality today is infinitely better than 14th century europe

Here in Norway, the Black Death was by far the worst period of the 14th century; between 50-70% of the population perished, changing the country forever. We lost most of those who could read and write—the nobility, the clergy, and so on—and with that, we lost our own written language and saw a shift in the balance of power within a union we had initiated. The remaining nobility intermarried with the Danish aristocracy, and our shared monarch in Denmark brought in Danish and German priests and officials to fill the vacancies; consequently, in addition to our language, we also lost our system of governance.
