Neuronal regeneration and collateral sprouting encompass processes, eg, synaptic plasticity and neurogenesis, which support structural and functional adaptation at the cellular level. Functional reorganization involves processes, eg, equipotentiality, vicariation, and diaschisis, which reflect the brain’s capacity to redistribute and modify activity across neural networks following injury or experience.
