@toukenforever: There’s something about the way Kaneki holds Touka here that makes this moment feel so much more meaningful. After everything they went through and all the times they had to hide what they felt for each other they finally reached a point where being close didn’t have to feel complicated anymore. Kaneki spent so much of his life pushing people away because he thought keeping them distant was the only way to protect them while Touka was always trying to act stronger than she really felt. But with each other they slowly learned that they didn’t have to keep pretending. Even something as small as Kaneki touching her cheek feels different because you know how much it took for them to get here. They went from barely understanding each other to becoming the people they could finally feel safe around. And honestly that’s what I love most about them. After everything they survived they could finally have moments where they didn’t have to fight or run or worry about what would happen next.
