His whole body was shaking with fear written into every part of him. Because of how terrified he was, Romeo had been overlooked for far too long. But then a village came together to change his story. Stacy Hope Rescue stepped in to save him, and @loukathehandsomest opened her home to foster him temporarily until we could get to him. Wanting to spare him any more stress, we made a last-minute decision to travel 2,200 miles to bring him home ourselves. When we first met him, he was terrified. Every sound made him flinch. Every movement made him shrink, bracing for pain he was sure was coming. So we met him where he was and let him set the pace. And slowly… he decided to take a chance on trust. Over the last few months, Romeo’s personality has blossomed. He is so goofy and playful, gentle and loving with both people and dogs. He has the softest heart and the sweetest soul. Now, he leans into us for affection like he’s waited his whole life for it. He rests without fear. He’s learning that hands aren’t for hurting… they’re for healing. He thought the world would hurt him, until he learned that love could hold him. A heart that braced for pain now leans in, trusting it won’t come. This is what healing looks like.
