My 20yo sister passed away when I was 8. Her boyfriend who was always around and treated me and my brother like his little brothers took to a movie (the rugrats movie). During the movie he tapped me on the shoulder with a jewelry box and showed me an engagement ring and asked if she would’ve married him. I was only half paying attention to him bc I was 8 and watching my favorite show as a movie. I said “of course she loved you” and went back to the cartoon. I think about that a lot.

The thing about this show (and the movie) is that it's exactly like how life works. People make mistakes, people forgive, people love, and then people die. Death isn't about who deserves to or not, it's something that just happens. He was supposed to die. He took awful care of himself, he was selfish, drank himself half to death; for all intents and purposes, he should've been the one to go. But he didn't, she did. And that's the point. Everything is random. Life is random. And sometimes the people you love the most, the ones that seemingly had so much life left, die. It's awful and unfair and cruel, but it's reality. What's most important is that we see her live a whole life where she does exactly what people do. Make mistakes, forgive, love, and, disgustingly and heart-wrenchingly, die. (I love this show so much)
