Let’s talk about tantrums. Not the most fun part of parenting, I know. Here’s the truth though: a tantrum isn’t disrespectful. It’s not personal. It’s not a reflection of your worth as a parent. And your goal isn’t to control your child—it’s to teach them how to control themselves. Yes, it’s hard. Especially in public. Especially when you feel eyes on you and the inner dialogue kicks in: “They’re judging me… they think I’m a bad parent.” Breathe. That’s their problem. Your job in that moment? Regulate yourself first. Don’t fight fire with fire. You can’t expect your child to calm down if you’re escalating too. Pause. Breathe. Ground yourself. (Easier said than done, I know!) Then— 🔑connect before you correct. Say: “I see you’re really upset right now.” Let them know you’re on their team, even in the middle of big emotions. Because the only way they’ll learn to trust you with their feelings… is if they see you model what to do with yours. Tantrums aren’t signs of bad kids. They’re opportunities for skill development and growth. So instead of shame, offer support. Instead of control, offer guidance. Teach them: big feelings are okay. Hurting others, destroying things—that’s not a safe expression of their feelings and that’s what we work on. ✨ Big emotions aren’t the problem. It’s what we do with them that matters. ✨ #GentleParenting #ParentingSupport #TantrumTips #EmotionallyIntelligentKids #ParentingMindset #PeacefulParenting
