it’s been 10 years without my great grandpa this year. i go to the same university he worked at as a janitor. his hard work gave me the opportunity to be on the other side of the campus as a student, not as staff. i walk the same paths that he took care of meticulously, and i wonder what it looked like when he worked there, because i know it was beautiful just like he was. i see him in everything and all of the things i’ve done in my life have been for him. my heart aches and screams for a person i barely got to know but loved me so wholly and unconditionally. 😭💔
