girl… please. she was one of the pioneers, one of the defining names of the scene with her debut. the glossy y2k futuristic aesthetic, the heavy autotune use, the high pitched, DIY, distorted, maximalist production, the way she took 2000s pop tropes to the very extreme, that’s all hyperpop. I get that what she’s doing now is different, but let’s not pretend as if she wasn’t a hyperpop girlie, because she WAS. she literally was, and she was fully in it, like, even down to her collaborators. ayesha, that kid, robokid, donatachi, liz, charli, dylan brady, etc. she was there, 2019 was a time. let’s not remix history

I feel like she was adjacent to hyperpop in the same way a band like Gym Class Heroes is adjacent to emo. That is not her sound at all but she collaborated with a lot of people in that scene so people slap the label on her

because hyperpop was never really a well defined genre? i think the only “”real”” hyperpop was 100 gecs and even they were a shitload of genres like ska rock dubstep etc all mixed into one. it was more of a community that i do think she was a part of for a second? especially when she collabed w artists like ayesha & that kid. i think it was more just the queer part of underground music and in a way that’s really beautiful i could talk about what hyperpop is foreverrrr ive been here since 2019 😭😭
