﴿إِنَّ الَّذِينَ لَا يَرْجُونَ لِقَاءَنَا وَرَضُوا بِالْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَاطْمَأَنُّوا بِهَا وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَنْ آيَاتِنَا غَافِلُونَ ۝ أُولَٰئِكَ مَأْوَاهُمُ النَّارُ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ﴾ [Yunus 10:7–8] These verses do not condemn work, success, or the lawful enjoyment of life. They warn against a deeper danger: treating this temporary world as the final destination, living without belief in resurrection and accountability, and turning away from the signs of God. The Qur’an does not ask us to abandon this world, but it refuses to let us mistake it for our permanent home. A life built entirely for what must end leaves a person unprepared for the life that will never end. The final words are decisive: their destination is the result of what they themselves earned. Human choices carry consequences, and this life is the time to awaken, believe, and return to God.
