Rubbish but yes always ask and wash hands first When did it become normal for friends and family not to visit and meet new baby ,most parents want to show their baby off . The world has gone mad x

My MIL rocked up at the door with a suitcase UNEXPECTED, UNINVITED, UNWANTED!! She wouldn’t let me feed or cuddle my baby because it was always her turn!! Needless to say I now have postpartum RAGE.

I’m 29 weeks pregnant and I’ve told everyone I can’t make any promises as to when people can meet my baby.

Bring your own drink and offer to make the parents a drink! Our baby was born in June and it’s been roasting ever since. After an emergency c section it has been hard offering drinks and making them for the visitors!

There’s always the one person that doesn’t want to give you your baby when they start crying and you ask the baby back. 🙄🙄🙄

Do you know what I remember? The day is when no one had any rules and time we would turn up to support the new Mum and dad with food and congratulations and flowers and cards. Now having a baby is just all of our rules rules and rules and I can understand some of them but that family bonding over a new baby is something that that’s just disappeared.

dont offer to give a bottle cos the parent may not want that but will feel awkward saying no. Just give the baby back unless the parent asks you to feed the baby. my girl was having trouble due to tongue tie and I fed her a specific way to reduce her swallowing air. I had a friend holding her and when my other half brought the bottle I. she took it from him and fed her completely wrong. my anxiety went through the roof and I felt I couldn't say something without offending. after that I made sure I took my child and said I feed her in a certain way cos she had been struggling.

Am I the only one who is so excited to show my baby off to every family member and friends?? Like what a privilege for everyone to meet my baby! But I’m quite confident to take my baby off someone if I needed, and no one would expect me to be a good host! They would come look after me 😅

Went to meet my nephew and i brought more clothes in his size as he came out smaller than thought and a book for my sister (it was about breastfeeding and she wasn’t sure if they were doing it right). My sister when to change as baby pooped on her, as soon as she was back she got him back as he was looking for food. Would i have liked a longer cuddle totally, was that good for my sister and baby nope

I made it clear I was going to follow a postpartum confinement routine, including having a postpartum diet which aids recovery. My friends were all supportive and waited until I invited them around.
I only visited my family homes or I had certain family members visit us, and was greatful to be fed, and was given time to shower and sleep when I felt comfortable to pass the baby across. the amount of snacks I recieved was a godsend for breastfeeding and snacking on the sofa

Don't kiss the baby. Don't even ask to kiss the baby!
Don't request a cup of tea. Offer to make the parents a cup of tea.
If you're coming over to help out, ask whether mum would prefer you to A) Do some jobs while mum has time with baby or B) Look after baby while mum has some time to herself. Ask instead of assuming.

Take something for the new mum, cook them a meal, help with cleaning etc. My friends just got out of hospital, awful post section complications for her. We are like family. I cooked her a meal, baked her flapjacks, bought her fave bakery cookies and some medicine I knew she needed. Took my own lunch too I wouldn’t dream of having her making me drinks etc when she needs resting. That’s what I am there for! Baby cuddles are a bonus 🙏🏻

I saw a friend recently and I messaged before “do you need anything” showed up with her fave Starbucks order, a bag of various snacks cos she was saying breastfeeding made her snacky, took a few big ready meals that were freezable so if they wanted to not cook the options there for them any evening
