I went to almost 41 weeks with my last baby…I’ve had 3 miscarriages since then and if I have another birth it will be an elective induction at 39 weeks. It’s crazy when you go through some stuff your perspective can really change. I just want a healthy baby earth side no funny business

People think “nothing good” means that it’s all bad. But “nothing good” means it could be neutral. After 40 weeks, the baby is effectively ready to come and either you with have nothing additional happen (neutral) or something bad will happen. Either way it’s not good. So you could have a perfectly fine pregnancy after 40 weeks but you could also have bad things happen and there’s no additional reason to remain pregnant from a fetal development stand point. People forget about the neutral part.

I went to L&D triage 3 times and finally was admitted the 3rd time. I was 39 weeks 1 day, 39 weeks 3 days and then 40 weeks. I was soooooo done with being pregnant and they just said I had “Braxton Hicks” but I couldn’t sleep and they would get to within 2 min of each other. Then calmed down. 😩 Had a VERY LONG labor with pitocin because labor stalled. Delivered a healthy sunny side up baby. Asked for food immediately. Nurses said it wasn’t a good idea. Insisted and they gave me half a turkey sandwich in one hand and the blue vomit bag in the other. They were right. 😂 Lost that sandwich immediately. Worth it though. I was soooooo hungry. After that they put me in the wheelchair with my baby to the mother baby unit 🥰

I couldn't feel my son moving. I was at 39 weeks and 2 days. I went to the hospital and on the monitor he was fine but we scheduled an induction for the next day.

My oldest hates change. He stayed in for 42 weeks before we kicked him out. He breastfed for a very long time too. He's 13 now and still hates change.

I had my first baby in the late 80s. 40+ weeks was very common. Do you think it's because moms today are older? When did "nothing good happens after 40" become common? I don't think we heard that at all back then.

When I was told I needed an induction at 37 weeks due to cholestasis, I was so panicked. And this sentiment was exactly what my OB shared with me — nothing good would happen by waiting. But a lot of bad COULD happen. Or nothing! But definitely nothing “good”. My baby was born 6.5lbs and totally healthy! Her words put me so at ease and I’ll never forget that.

I had an induction because my first was overdue 12 days. Ended up with more interventions because there wasn’t as much amniotic fluid, ended up with mecconium. Earlier induction probably would have been bette. Induction vs natural labour is much more intense. My spontaneous labours were unmedicated and much less painful.

My sister was still born. The doctor refused to induce my mum and left her to go into labour naturally… she was 44 weeks.

My OB finally agreed to induce me at 42 and 2 after I had an absolute come apart when he said, "Sometimes, when mom and baby are doing well, we let them go to 43 weeks." 33 years later and I'm still mad about it.

I was 41 weeks when I was finally induced after begging😭 but my pregnancy was literally picture perfect and I’m glad I waited! My body was more than ready to give birth…went from 3 to 10 cm in 4 hours after my second dose of cytotec😳 my doctor said I was very lucky the whole pregnancy + birth (and this was my first baby🥹)

Both of mine were overdue. First child had pooped in the amniotic fluid. Baby 2, induced at 42 weeks and came out with a fever. Neither of these are a big deal, but were directly related to being overdue.

How does a medical expert know that the baby’s lungs are ready to leave the womb? I thought the baby was the one that “says” they’re developmentally ready to leave the womb by initiating labor? When you say they’re developmentally ready, why wouldn’t the baby be coming on its own? Just want to make sure I completely understand!
