As a lurker I use social media more like a magazine. So I don’t really want to see what friends and family are doing. I would rather do that in real life. To me it’s like reading a book. I’m seeing things I enjoy watching. I’m not wanting to socialise on it.

My friend and I used to send each other videos. Just us. But over time more and more people starting sending me videos. I just stopped watching them. And I have told people it’s because I feel overwhelmed. I don’t even open up the videos my hubby sends me 😂

I think social media isnt for friends and family, but for self expression,creative outlets(my favorite use), identity building, personal branding, entertainment, etc. In the words of Mel Robbins: "Your social media is not for your friends. Your social media is for you and your dreams and your self-expression. And it's meant to put something out in the world intentionally so that people who are looking for you and who need you can find you. That is what social media is for."

As an autistic 22 year old I actually just recently learned that engaging with others on social media is a big deal. I just don’t know if I ever understood the social implications of interacting or not interacting with anything on social media. I am now trying to engage with my mutuals constantly but I don’t fully understand it

Honestly no. This question has never crossed my mind. Why would I care if somebody watches my stories and doesn't engage? Isn't that what they're for? Also why would I be checking who's watching my stories? I'd be way more concerned if I was stressing out about who's watching my stories.

I noticed that a lot of my “friends” develop a kind of parasocial relationship with me via social media. My account is private. So occasionally I deactivate my socials for weeks to break that codependency. It’s really interesting to see their reactions but also forces them to move away from knowing me through social media.

The amount of times I’ve had someone in person tell me “oh yeah I’ve seen all the stuff you’ve been making/doing on socials” but I’ll have no interaction with them online…it’s so weird because when you’re posting online you’re putting yourself out there and if you don’t get interaction it feels like nobody sees or likes your stuff or just you. It also kind of feels like you’re being watched…stalked…and possibly judged
