Event: Fair walked from his home to the bus stop and was about to board the bus when an altercation broke out with a suspect who approached him. He was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. Fifteen students on the bus witnessed the tragedy. Personal Context: Family members shared that he planned to graduate early in December and was expecting to become a father. Arrests and InvestigationFirst Arrest: 17-year-old Reginald Louis Barnes Jr. was arrested Wednesday night, August 12, and charged with murder.Second Arrest: 18-year-old Kevon Ken'Dre Covington was taken into custody on Thursday afternoon, August 13, following a manhunt. Additional Suspect: An unidentified juvenile was also arrested following a traffic stop in Spartanburg.Agencies Involved: The Gaffney Police Department and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) investigated the shooting.

This was my 17yo cousins last walk home. He was killed 3wks ago at 5:20am in a hit and run when he was heading back home after sneaking out to go skateboarding w his friends. I am so sorry for your loss.

I’m so sorry sweetheart. This is both heartbreaking and terrifying! I hate that kids aren’t even safe walking to the bus stop! I’m a Coroner and I’m constantly warning my children of all the new tricks people are using to kidnap and they get frustrated with me but I see the most awful things in my career and the world scares me. Everyone thinks it won’t happen to them until it does. My 16yo daughter would just roll her eyes at me until the other day!!! A 30 something year old man approached her and her friend as they were sitting in the food court at a local mall. She secretly recorded part of their interaction with him saying he has a wife beater under his shirt and do they want to see. He was trying to lure them to a gas station to drink beer, and telling them he loved them. They immediately ran into Hollister because they saw a bunch of men inside school shopping with their daughters and were yelling for help and for him to get away from them. Not one person offered to help!!! They just went about their day and left the girls to fend for themselves. I was furious!!! I just don’t understand how people can turn a blind eye to children begging for help! I hope by posting and sharing these things it will make people stay vigilant and protect others! Thank you for sharing your babies last moments with us. I will be praying for you and your family.

I lost my oldest to gun violence two years ago he was 19.. it’s hard but just lean on God. I would say the same feeling I failed him bc I didn’t make it to save him. As a mother we always do what we can to save them and when we can’t it’s truly a heart break. I’m praying for you, from one angel MOM to another. Take your time and grieve your baby let no one tell you differently ♥️♥️
