In the episode after Qingtian’s death, I read some comments saying that no one seemed to care except his mother. I mean…that feels like such a shallow way of looking at grief. I think people sometimes forget that grief doesn’t have one visible form or timeline. Just because someone continues living, taking care of others, or doesn’t openly break down doesn’t mean they aren’t grieving. Some people carry their pain quietly and keep functioning because they feel they have no choice, and I think that’s something this series portrayed really well, especially through Changyang. He had to carry so much on his shoulders, stay strong for Qinglang, be someone he could lean on, and keep everything together even when he was hurting too. He didn’t have the space to process all of it. He was the one who found Qingtian in the forest, and whatever he saw that day was something he couldn’t even bring himself to describe. He left him there, but he didn’t leave that image behind. He carried it with him in silence, a memory that would never leave him. Andnow, with everything that has happened, all the things he had been holding in are finally beginning to catch up with him. I resonate with it on a very personal level, because sometimes you can keep carrying everything for sooo long that you almost forget you’re hurting too. And sometimes it’s only when you finally have a moment alone with yourself that everything you’ve been holding in finally comes pouring out.
