@_thewkcoach: 1. WATCHING THE BATTER 👀 Often, keepers watch the batter as they run down, or stop watching the ball as the batter swings. This is ruining your stumping success. There’s a crucial metre or two where, if you keep watching the ball, you’ve won the battle! Tell yourself “watch the ball” every delivery and follow it from the bowler’s hand all the way into yours. 2. TAKING YOUR HANDS TO THE STUMPS TOO SOON 🔙 The panic sets in. Your chance is FINALLY here. But your hands start going back towards the stumps before you’ve actually caught the ball. You’ve watched it all the way — but excitement has got the better of you! Stay calm. You can only stump someone with the ball in your hand. Take that split second longer to make sure the ball is nestled in the gloves, then go back. 3. TOO MUCH GIVE 🧤 Stumpings can be split-second occurrences. The switching of feet, the overbalancing, the lifting of the back foot — sometimes the opportunity is tiny. Bringing your hands back too far with the ball gives the batter time to sort themselves out and get back. Keeping your hands strong and out in front of your eyes reduces the time and distance needed to get back to the stumps.
